I Sense You When I Shop in The Natural Culture

My contribution for the show Great Danes, curated by Jeroen Maes for Het Glazen Huis Lommel 2016, was my wall piece I Sense You when I shop in The Natural Culture.

3-D tableau/Assemblage: Plastic and metal necklace holder, facet pressed glass container in a pear shape, blown glass object silvered, dove-spikes, double necklace with silver plastic disco balls, transparent plastic pedestal wrapped in a fur collar, casted horse leg in crystal glass, 3 IKEA shelves.

Dimensions: W 250 x H 150 x D 30 cm.

‘In my work the point of departure and the focus is strongly influenced by the ‘commercial aesthetics’ of manmade items, as I seek to describe the seductive and irrational aspect of beauty and its indefinable quality that I observe in everyday life. Consumerism, allurement, visual satisfaction are amongst the themes my work touches upon.I take man-made items, materials and shapes and pull them out of everyday context and place them into new constellations making 3-D tableaus. Creating new meaning with ordinary shapes. I find that the naked radiance of the displayed elements reflects humankind’s need for sensuality. And it is my assertion that materials are used as substitutes and manifestation for immaterial needs. I see longings and emotions that are placed into commodities. I look upon things, as they want to seduce me. Creation is everything. Sensual Materiality.’
