I Sense Us In Anything 2, Het Glazen Huis, Belgium
Residency
During Mia Lerssi’s residence at the Glazen Huis Lommel in Belgium, in conjunction with Gerrit Rietveld Academie’ 50th anniversary in the autumn of 2019, Mia created 3 new works.
Displayed side by side with work from the past, the work creates new constellations on material sensuality and material culture.
–
” I find that the naked radiance of the displayed elements reflects humankind’s need for sensuality. And it is my assertion that materials are used as substitutes and manifestation for immaterial needs. I see longings and emotions that are placed into commodities. I look upon things, as they want to seduce me. ”
Mia Lerssi, Great Danes, THE SECOND OF MAY, 2016.

Seduced by the visual and seductive qualities of glass, I collect and craft things that appeal to my instincts. Be it from crafts to mass produced objects. In this work I Sense Us In Anything 2 I have created a wave of abundant contemporary aesthetics from a material culture with a material sensuality brought into play as a weathered mirror of womankind. Recognizable shapes and undefinable objects lure the senses.
It is my humble wish that the viewer must be just as seduced as myself!

The glass department of Dutch Gerrit Rietveld Academy has existed for 50 years in 2019. All these years, this training has been an important progressive breeding ground for future glass artists, which has earned it great recognition internationally. The GlazenHuis is also celebrating this anniversary with the exhibition THE COLLECTION _50 years glass department Gerrit Rietveld Academy.
50 objects were selected from former Rietveld students and teachers from the Lommel glass art collection and donations from the private Embrechts & Ryckaert and Schrijvers collections. In addition, two in-situ installations were realized by guest artists Mia Lerssi (DK) and Joost Bicker Caarten (NL).
